Harris Wofford, Politician and Youth Development Advocate, Passes at Age 92

In the 1990s, Harris Wofford helped establish a national day of community service to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day each year. This week, he passed away on the holiday he helped augment.

Updated: Amid Cuts to Youth Services, Trump Includes Big Increase to Child Welfare Entitlement

Note: CLICK HERE for an updated Trump Budget Request chart, which includes the 2017 appropriations figures from the recent omnibus deal reached in early May. President Donald Trump’s 2018 budget proposal includes a slate of deep cuts and eliminations of programs aimed at serving youth and families, but includes a hefty increase in the amount spent on an entitlement for foster care and adoption assistance.

Federal My Brother’s Keeper Grants Announced by CNCS

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will fund $24 million in grants as part of President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative, which is aimed at improving the academic and social outcomes of young black men.

AmeriCorps Partnerships Funding: Coming Soon

Apparently it’s not your grandmother’s AmeriCorps program over there at the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS)! The agency just issued a request for proposals to use AmeriCorps slots to provide lawyers and paralegals willing to help with legal proceedings for unaccompanied minors (if you haven’t turned the news on, we have a lot more of them now).
