Congress passed, and President Trump has signed, the CARES Act, a massive piece of stimulus legislation aimed at shoring up the American economy and protecting workers and businesses in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.

According to the Washington Post’s database of executive branch nominees, the Trump administration has either announced or formally nominated 369 people for Senate-confirmed jobs. Of those, 208 have been confirmed. But Trump has not even put forth a name to lead some of the agencies that oversee most federal spending on youth.

Apparently it’s not your grandmother’s AmeriCorps program over there at the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS)! The agency just issued a request for proposals to use AmeriCorps slots to provide lawyers and paralegals willing to help with legal proceedings for unaccompanied minors (if you haven’t turned the news on, we have a lot more of them now).

The Louisiana State Senate will take up this week a budget bill that would take the state out of juvenile justice-related community services, at a time when local governments are unlikely to fill such a gap.
