Fear and uncertainty are not new to many families in Los Angeles. For some, there’s the constant uncertainty that comes from living paycheck to paycheck. For others it’s the fear of losing a job, or having an unexpected expense because of health care or other basic needs.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted today to create a philanthropy liaison within the recently formed Office of Child Protection called the Center for Strategic Public-Private Partnerships. The recommendation to create the center came from a group of philanthropists–the Foster Care Funders Collaborative–led by Southern California Grantmakers (SCG), a regional association representing over 200 grantmakers.

During an event in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, members of Southern California Grantmakers gathered with nonprofit and public service providers to discuss the recent influx of unaccompanied immigrant children into southern California and how the philanthropic community is responding to it.
