This study reviews the effects of out-of-home placements for youth as well as counter-measures that can be taken to address trauma resulting from these placements. It was a longitudinal study completed over four years.
The report shows the study’s findings:
- Correct and thoughtful placement of a child out-of-home must include the determination of what the child’s needs are and how to best support them.
- Out-of-home placements that do not fit with a child’s needs can hinder their improvement and thus increase the time they stay out-of-home.
- By using a human team and an algorithm to determine what placement would best fit a child’s needs, the study was able to find the most beneficial placements for youth.
