Juvenile Justice in Rhode Island

According to a new brief from Rhode Island Kids Count, juvenile crime rates are falling across the state, a number that is congruent with national trends. And the total number of youth participating in the Rhode Island Training School decreased from 1,069 to 498. The Rhode Island Training School is a residential facility and rehabilitation center for youth who are facing delinquency charges in the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families.

The Juvenile Justice in Rhode Island issue brief charts juvenile justice trends in the state over the past decade and provides details about the youth currently involved in the juvenile justice system in Rhode Island.  The report also draws attention to best practices for improving youth outcomes and bolstering community safety.
