A study from researchers at the School of Social Work at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, suggests that programs for transition-age youth may be effective at preventing homelessness. Avoiding the Precipice: An Evaluation of Aunt Leah’s Link Program in Supporting Youth from Foster Care examines the effectiveness of housing and services for transition-age foster youth in the Vancouver area. Researchers found that those who accessed Aunt Leah’s Link Program achieved more stability after leaving the foster care system than a similar group of foster youth that did not use the program. The study also identified promising approaches to support low-cost, effective approaches to helping foster youth avoid homelessness.
