Marcy Mistrett has been named the new chief executive officer of the Campaign for Youth Justice (CFYJ), a Washington, D.C.-based organization focused on ending the transfer of juvenile offenders to adult courts and facilities.
Mistrett most recently split time between two jobs: she led recruiting for Inspired Families Association and was vice president of programs for the Potomac Association of Cooperative Teachers.
She spent five years with the Institute for Community Peace (formerly the National Funding Collaborative on Violence Prevention) as a technical assistance provider to ten communities attempting violence prevention and reduction projects.
She became CEO on June 1, and succeeds Liz Ryan, who founded CFYJ in 2005. Her first days on the job were spent attending the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s national conference for its Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative.
“Marcy has the perfect blend of organizing, executive experience, strategic thinking, and fundraising skills to lead the organization and carry it to the next level,” said Ryan, in a statement.
Malcolm Young, who from 2005 to 2009 directed the John Howard Association of Illinois, has served as the interim leader since Ryan left in December.
John Kelly is the editor-in-chief of The Imprint.
