The Wisconsin Department of Human Services is seeking proposals for a parent advocate for families in La Crosse County.
The Family Advocate will work with families who need support in the areas of education advocacy, accessing county and state services, applying and using benefits, and parenting a child with special needs.
The Family Advocate will receive referrals from the Family Resource Liaison; Children with Special Needs social work staff; Child Protective Services social work staff; Juvenile Justice social work staff; and community partners. If called upon, the Family Advocate will support the family in navigating the service system, sit as a member of the child’s support team, and provide advocacy in the best interest of the child and / or family.
The Family Advocate will additionally support the family in the area of the parenting children with special needs.
The Family Advocate also sits on several county committees such as: Mental Health Advisory Committee for Children’s Services; Comprehensive Community Services Coordinating Committee; Coulee Coalition for Children with Special Needs; and the Family Support Advisory Committee.
