The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking information and soliciting interest in partnering on a federal grant opportunity to prevent homelessness for current and former foster youth.
According to a recent federal forecast, the application for implementation funding will be issued in March 2015, with a due date in June 2015. The forecast projects an award ceiling of up to $625,000 each year for three years. Projects are expected to build the capacity of child welfare systems to prevent homelessness among the most at-risk foster youth/young adults with child welfare involvement.
The result of the initial planning grant identified the following core outcomes as effective services/intervention for foster youth at risk of homelessness:
- Stable housing
- Permanent connections
- Education and employment, and
- Social and emotional well-being.
