The city of Springfield, Mass. is soliciting proposals from youth service providers in order to increase the percentage of afterschool engagement activities that will provide youth opportunities that compete with criminal activity.
The Byrne Grant Justice Innovation Youth Service Provider will provide afterschool extra curricular activities for youth between the ages of 5 and 22 who reside in the South End neighborhood of the city. The youth service provider will be closely linked to the overall community-building and engagement activities associated with the South End C3 Public Safety Initiative, including neighborhood walks, block parties, and meet-and-greets.
Participation at the weekly South End C3 Public Safety Initiative meetings by program staff is strongly encouraged.
Areas of focus will include:
- Helping to create a safe and secure environment for the residents of the South End by utilizing neighborhood amenities such as Emerson Wight Park and the South End Middle School.
- Youth leadership development and mentoring.
- Ability to offer diverse programming throughout life of the contract.
