The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an expert in both addiction medicine and obstetrics.
The expert/contractor will create and provide training modules for substance abuse treatment providers on evidence based assessment and treatment of pregnant women with substance use disorders, including appropriate care through the post-partum period.
The training module(s) should include the importance of screening all women of reproductive age for pregnancy on entry into substance abuse treatment, the impact of substance abuse on pregnancy, the impact of pregnancy on substance abuse management, standards for optimal care of pregnant and post-partum women receiving substance abuse treatment, and the importance of collaborating with a woman’s prenatal care provider for the best coordination of care. A basic training module should be developed for both in person and online use. The expert trainer will also assist the Office in developing online materials and links as further resources for substance abuse treatment providers.
The materials will be used statewide.
