The Maine Department of Corrections is seeking proposals to implement a restorative justice model into the Long Creek Youth Development Center. The department is seeking a contractor who is experienced working with juvenile offenders using a restorative justice model geared towards re-entry.
The model will be used for all offenders at the Long Creek Facility who are entering phase 3, re-entry into the community.
The successful bidder will develop a program designed to assist youth transitioning from later stage incarceration through the final phase of community re-integration. In order for youth to transition to this phase, they must be referred to and successfully complete a restorative justice group by the successful bidder’s design.
As a part of this process the youth must develop and provide a presentation to the classification team which clearly demonstrates an understanding of harm done and acceptance of responsibility for their actions which led to their incarceration. The proposed program should take youth through the restorative justice model and help them prepare for this presentation.
