The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office / Department of Correction (SO/DOC) is seeking proposals to provide a Parenting Education and Parent/Child Visitation Program for both male and female inmates incarcerated in the SO/DOC jail facilities.
The mission of the program is to improve inmates’ parenting skills, maintain and enhance the bond between inmate parents and their children, and minimize the psychological damage experienced by children from parental separation.
Course participation is voluntary. Inmates classified as minimum or medium-security are eligible to participate, provided they have enough time remaining in their sentence to complete the course.
Children participating in the Parent/Child Visitation program are between 0-12 years of age. The SO/DOC’s Support Services Captain is responsible for approving exceptions to bring in children over 14 years of age.
