In a Nutshell: Based in Seattle, the Raikes Foundation was co-founded by Tricia and Jeffrey Raikes in 2002 to provide youth with the tools and opportunities to become productive adults. Jeffrey Raikes, a leader at The Microsoft Corporation and eventual president, retired in 2008 and joined the Gates Foundation as CEO.
The foundation funds programs for youth of all ages, however, takes a particular interest in the critical early years of adolescence – ages 10-14 – when the rate of risky behaviors and disengagement from school accelerates.
