In a nutshell: Conrad N. Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels, established the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation as a philanthropic trust in 1944. Upon his death in 1979, he left nearly his entire estate to the foundation. Conrad’s son, Barron, continues to provide leadership to the foundation, serving as chairman. Like his father, he has also pledged to leave the majority of his fortune to the foundation.
The foundation has an enormous portfolio, spanning several continents. Within the U.S., the foundation has recently turned their focus to transition aged youth in foster care. Domestically, they also invest in early intervention programs and substance abuse prevention, including Project ALERT, a substance abuse prevention curriculum for middle school students.

Organizations may also be eligible for the Conrad N. Hilton Fund for Sisters, if the program serves an economically disadvantaged population and employs a full-time member of an officially recognized Catholic congregation of women. Grants from the Fund for Sisters usually do not exceed $15,000. A project proposal form is required as an initial step.
