Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Young People Who Can’t Go Home Reveal Holes in the Foster Care Safety Net

February 3, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Despite improvements to the child welfare system like AB 12 (extended foster care), many older teens and young adults are still falling through the cracks. A panel of young people will talk about what happens when they’re left to navigate on their own. Legal advocates and service providers will share findings on high rates of homelessness, sexual exploitation, and mental health issues among youth in this population, as well as what it will take to strengthen the safety net.

Event supported by New America Media, Bay Area Legal Aid’s Youth Justice Project, Zellerbach Family Foundation and The California Endowment.
