Who Cares – Foster Parent Recruitment and Engaging Faith Communities

On Oct. 16, The Imprint invites you to a Civic Dialogue in Los Angeles to coincide with the publishing of its soon-to-be-released reporting project: Who Cares: A National Count of Foster Homes and Families.
Who Cares is a rigorous examination of the nation’s foster care system, and its capacity to care for the children who enter it. Last year, The Imprint – a news outlet covering child welfare nationally – issued a similar report that was highlighted in stories by The Associated Press and National Public Radio.
We will host launch events in Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta around the report’s findings.
The Los Angeles dialogue will occur October 16 and will center on the role the faith-based community can play in providing homes and support for the county’s foster children.
The event will take place at the Center of Hope Church in Inglewood, where a panel will explore the report’s findings, drill down on the state of foster parent recruitment and retention in L.A., and highlight local efforts to get the faith community more involved in foster care.
Confirmed panelists include: Bobby Cagle, director of L.A.’s Department of Children and Family Services; Wendy Garen, CEO of The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation; Mrs. Beavers, a longtime L.A. foster parent and a featured character in HBO’s forthcoming documentary “Foster;” and Pastor Geremy Dixon, a foster dad and senior pastor at Center of Hope.
