Virginia Pryor, the chief of staff to Bobby Cagle when he served as Georgia’s child welfare director has been hired in the same capacity for his team at the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
Pryor was Cagle’s second in command for three years at the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services. When Cagle was hired as the director of DCFS in November 2017, Pryor became the interim director of Georgia’s child protective services system.
In June 2018, Pryor left her position at the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services and joined Casey Family Programs in Los Angeles, where she has been consulting for Cagle on issues that include the agency’s desire to enhance child welfare services in the Antelope Valley area of Los Angeles County as part of the Antelope Valley Resource Infusion effort. That region has become a focal point for the department since the July death of Noah Cuatro, a 4-year-old boy whose social workers pressed for his removal into foster care.
The move comes after Brandon Nichols, former deputy director and interim director of L.A. County DCFS, departed from the agency in August.
Pryor will start on December 2.
