Eight months after Bobby Cagle left Georgia to head the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, his former right hand is L.A.-bound to work on child welfare issues with him again.
Virginia Pryor, who was Cagle’s chief of staff for three years at the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and became the interim director after he left for Los Angeles, will now work with her former boss as a consultant with Casey Family Programs in Los Angeles. It marks a return to Casey for Pryor, who spent 11 years with the grantmaker as senior director of strategic consulting before joining Georgia DFCS.
In her previous tenure at Casey, Pryor helped implement the organization’s family group conferencing initiative at its offices throughout the country. She has also worked as the principal of Immersion, a child welfare consulting group.
Cagle resigned to take L.A.’s top child welfare job last October. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Pryor as interim director after Cagle departed.
Pryor announced her resignation before the July 4 holiday, and her last day with DFCS will be July 27. According to a resignation letter, Pryor said Jeff Lukich, currently DFCS chief of staff, will lead the agency until Deal selects a new interim director.
