Luisa Flores Urrutia

Luisa Flores Urrutia is originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She came to the U.S. when she was 16 years old after surviving extreme circumstances. Despite her parents not being able to obtain academic opportunities beyond a middle school education, Flores Urrutia has always been motivated to overcome adversity and study as hard as she can in pursuit of higher education. In spite of the language barrier, she graduated from high school with a GPA of 4.00. She graduated from Pasadena City College with her associate’s degrees in Kinesiology, Natural Science, and Kinesiology and Wellness. Flores Urrutia graduated with honors from California State University, Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Exercise. She was also a student success leader, tutor, college athlete, PCC Alumni Network Ambassador, member of the Pasadena Latino Heritage Parade Committee, CSULA Pre Physical Therapy Association and a Community Ambassador for the City of Pasadena City Public Health Department. She is a LA County Youth Commissioner and representative for the 5th district and a Public Health Department employee. She is currently doing her hospital hours at the Keck School of Medicine of USC to apply to graduate school.
