In March of 2016, Latonia Rolbiecki’s grandson was born at Fairview Hospital in Wyoming, Minnesota, his body riddled with the effects of his mother’s drug and alcohol abuse. The child was immediately placed into a foster home by the Chisago County Health and Human Services Department.
Rolbiecki was ready to take him and her son, a new father, into her home immediately – when her son’s rights were terminated, she prepared to adopt her grandson. But it never happened.
This series chronicles Rolbiecki’s efforts to care for her grandson – who like her is mixed race – while Chisago grew increasingly inclined to let the boy’s white foster parents adopt him.
